What is a "Reply-Guy"
There is no one way to define a Reply-Guy. It can be someone who is quick and consistent to reply, or someone who leaves a funny, interesting or thoughtful take on posts, or someone who passionately disagrees with people, or all of the above.
A mundane definition of a Reply-Guy would be someone (usually a new or smaller social media account) who latches onto bigger accounts of similar interests and is quick to reply rigorously to their posts.
A Reply-Guy captures attention and evokes some emotion in readers.
Don't wait for your own posts to be noticed. Your one Reply can give you that chance.
Armed with this theory, I started playing the “Reply Guy Game”. It took some hits and misses to get me noticed but eventually it started to pay off.
Why it works?
The Twitter Algorithm likes positive engagement. If you leave irrelevant or off-topic replies chances are your replies will have a lower 'Tweet Score' and they will be De-boosted
Higher the number of likes, replies and retweets, more visibility on your posts. So, to be relevant and grow, you need to learn how to stay in your lane (SimClusters).
More details on SimClusters later…
How to create a feedback loop from your data
I wanted to see how all the mumbo-jumbo of the algorithm translates to reality and replying to which accounts is actually working out.
Using the 𝕏 analytics data you can find out in which circles you are getting noticed.
Here I analyzed my 𝕏 analytics information for the same period where I gained 2.2M impressions in a week. This is including all my posts and replies. I found some clear patterns-
51% of ALL MY IMPRESSIONS were generated only from 3 big accounts!
ONE account gave me almost 1/3rd of all my impression.
There is a clear SimCluster which works for me best. Crazy/wild video contents gives me 65% of my impressions (just 5 Accounts) You can analyze your own data and see which accounts you should engage more with. You can double down on your winners and prioritize.
I have replied to several other big accounts as well but that didn't translate to high engagement. Either the replies were not relevant to the topic or I'm just not in that same cluster
Will you get Ad-revenue from your replies ?
Short answer is not directly.
Ad-revenue is generated when people see ads on your own posts
People view your profile
Being a Reply guy will get your profile views. But eventually you have to come up with your own goods to make people interact with your own posts.
Remember, 𝕏 is paying you to ‘Create Content’, not just react.
Being a “Reply Guy” is a great way to get your voice in front of people if you are staring out. It gives you a great opportunity to connect with interesting people fast. It will get you to your 5M impressions fast.
Being a reply guy is just expediting your growth !
How you can be a Reply Guy -
You can carve your own path to success but here are some general rules:
Follow big accounts that post something you relate to
Be quick to reply ( turn on notification to accounts you like)
Your replies should further expand the original idea
You can bring a funny/interesting/thoughtful side to the discussion
You can disagree and even be controversial as long as you are civil
Have more conversations like you do in real life
Pro Tip: People love to hate on 𝕏 and they will let you know it.
If you have been experimenting with this idea or want to, leave a comment.
Lets have more conversations ! Until next Analysis. Cheers !
